- The Abduction of Oreithyia, daughter of King Erechtheus
- oil on copper
- 15 1/4 by 21 3/4 in.; 38 by 55.2 cm.
Condition
Oil on copper. The copper is slightly bent along the left edge as well as at the corners and the left side of the lower edge. The copper is supported on the reverse four pieces of wood. The surface is in overall good condition. Some areas of thinness, especially in the putti and clouds at upper left as well as in the landscape at lower left. The surface appears clean and stable aside from minor craquelure. Associated lifting and loss in the darker pigments, especially the purple-red of the cloak behind the two figures and in the darker shadows of the male figure's body. Under UV light, older retouches are visible, especially along the lower and upper left corners. There are additional small scattered retouches in the male figure's hair; in the shadows of his left leg; in the cloak between the two figures; and in the clouds at right. Additional retouches to his wings as well as scattered dots and dashes of retouching in the putti and clouds at left.
