Provenance

Acquired in Italy in the 18th century by an ancestor of the previous owner.

Condition

Oil on canvas, adhered to aluminum with wax. The original canvas is somewhat coarse. The surface is slightly dirty as well as somewhat thin. Under UV light, there are dots and dashes of retouching throughout the work, especially at the extreme edges and in the subjects nose and mouth.
