Catalogue Note

The reverse of this work is monogrammed MV, the mark of Michiel Vrient (active 1615-37), an Antwerp panel maker who was active in that city from his acceptance into the Antwerp Joiners' Guild in 1615 until 1637. Vreint's monogram has been found on panels by Adriaen Brouwer (Interior of a Room with Figures, Victoria & Albert Museum, London, no. CAI. 80) as well as multiple works by Rubens, including the additions to Ruben's High Altar in Antwerp Cathedral.
