- 21 3/8 by 16 7/8 in.; 54.3 by 42.8 cm.
Provenance
Private collection, United States.
Condition
Tempera, oil and gold on panel. The panel has been cradled. The surface is in generally good condition considering the age of the work. Minor, widely spaced craquelure is visible throughout. Pinpoint losses are visible in the leftmost figure in red. There is a vertical panel crack extending top to bottom approximately 5 inches from the right edge. There are short vertical panel cracks visible throughout the right side of the work. Three additional small vertical panel cracks are visible along the lower left edge. Older retouches have discolored with time and are visible to the naked eye throughout the work, especially in the reds and blues of the cloaks. Under UV light, the majority of the work is obscured by the varnish. Small scattered older retouches fluoresce very lightly throughout the work. A few scattered newer retouches are visible along the upper left edge; in the left most Saints hair; and around the previously mentioned horizontal panel crack at right. Approximately 10 to 15 additional pinpoint dots of retouching are visible throughout.
