Catalogue Note

North Mymns Park is an Elizabethan manor house in Hertfordshire, built sometime around 1600 by Sir Ralph Conninsgby, MP for the county. It stayed in the family until the end of the 19th century having been purchased in 1893 by the Anglo-American banker Walter Hayes Burns, J.P. Morgan's brother-in-law, who had it richly furnished with a collection of antiques in the taste then in vogue with his fellow American financiers.
