This unusual commode in the goût grec style has the stamp of two 18th century Parisian ébénistes but is not characteristic of their work. The guilloche enclosing flowerhead mount on the frieze can be seen on a demi-lune commode by Gosselin, illustrated by Nicolay, op. cit., Fig.A. It is also worthwhile comparing a commode stamped by RVLC, with identical guilloche and flowerhead frieze and corner mounts and very similar gilt-bronze panels framing the parquetry panels in the Musée Nissim de Camondo, illustrated by Mathey, op. cit., p. 74, no. 339. Also see de Gary, op. cit,., for a commode of similar outline and with identical corner mounts and similarly framed parquetry panels by Cramer, which is also in the Musée Nissim de Camondo.
André-Louis Gilbert received Master 1774.
Antoine Gosselin, received Master 1752.
