The pendant with a drop-shaped outline pierced with an openwork quatrefoil featuring the bust of a woman with braided locks and veiled headdress, wearing a high collar outlined by a double-strand beaded necklace suspending a cross, the rim of the pendant embellished with foliate flourishes, supporting an oval-shaped cabochon sapphire in a closed-back mounting, completed by a chain of oval and quatrefoil-shaped links and granulation, the pendant stamped Wièse, with maker's mark, chain length 20¼ inches; circa 1890.

Condition

In good condition. The piece displays minor scratching commensurate with wear and age and there is some tarnishing to the gold on the reverse of the sapphire. The sapphire detaches and is backed light very slightly violetish blue and is moderately included, including a small scalloped chip to the surface of the cabochon. There is a maker's mark on back, side of one pendant loop at top.This maker mark was valid from 1890 to 1923.
