Description

  • mauboussin
  • platinum, colored stone, diamond
The potted flowering plant decorated with three carved sapphire leaves, accented by sugarloaf cabochon sapphires, carved ruby beads and carved emerald beads, further set with buff-top calibré-cut emeralds, completed by variously-cut diamonds weighing approximately 5.00 carats and applied with black enamel, signed Mauboussin, Made in France, numbered Y249, with French assay and workshop mark, one emerald missing; circa 1930.

Condition

In good condition. As noted, there is one buff-top calibré-cut emerald missing, but this is not readily apparent. The emerald bead is loose but secure. In otherwise good condition. The medium-light blue carved sapphires are lightly included and highly translucent, an anomaly for carved material. The medium green emerald bead and medium to medium-deep purplish red ruby beads are moderately to heavily included, translucent to semi-translucent. The buff-top calibré-cut medium green emeralds and medium-deep blue sapphires are lightly to moderately included. Small loss to the black enamel at the very top, exposing gold ground; loss to the chevron-shaped enamel at upper right, exposing gold ground. Neither loss is readily apparent when worn. The diamonds are approximately F-H color, VS clarity. The rubbed, but legible, signature at the base of the jardiniere reads "Mauboussin-France," not "Mauboussin, Made in France" as stated in the printed catalogue. Numbered next to the signature. Maker's mark, possibly for Delahaye, located on the undergallery below the second highest flowerhead. The brooch fitting may be removed using a jeweler's screwdriver. Approximately 2 1/2 x 2 inches.
