Condition
Original canvas. There is a repairing patch visible to the reverse of the canvas, towards the upper left corner, but otherwise the canvas appears to be sound. The canvas undulates very slightly at each of the lower corners. There are some scattered lines of craquelure across the work, most apparent to the more impasto areas of white pigment. There are some losses to the paint scattered across the work, including but not limited to the edges of the work, the top of the three painted eyes, the brown symbols to the centre of the composition, the white pigment at the top left edge, and the yellow pigment at the top of the work.
Ultraviolet light reveals two spots of retouching, one to the white pigment with the aforementioned loss in the top left corner beneath the yellow pigment, and one vertical section of retouching between the yellow and white pigments at the bottom edge of the yellow pigment in the upper left quadrant, which corresponds with the aforementioned repairing patch.
The work is float-mounted and housed in a simple painted wooden frame.
