Condition
Original canvas. There are some vertical lines of paint cracking at the left edge of the composition. Very minor reticulation is evident in the maroon pigment in the upper left quadrant of the composition. There is some minor frame abrasion and a small area of rubbing with tiny flecks of paint loss at the right vertical edge. There is a small knock with associated paint cracking in the brown central diamond at the bottom of the composition. On close examination is its possible to see some small areas of retouching at the centre of the upper, lower and left edges of the composition, with further spots in the lower left corner.
Ultraviolet light reveals areas of florescence at the centre of the left vertical edge, at the centre of the lower and upper edges of the composition and in the lower left corner. With further areas in the shadow to the right of the table and at the centre of the right edge. These are consistent with the afore mentioned areas of retouching.
The work is presented in a wooden frame.
