Condition

Not viewed out of the frame. The board appears to be laid down onto a backing support. The board appears sound. The edges of the board appear to have sustained several knocks and scuffs, most apparent to both the vertical edges. This has also resulted in some flecks of loss around the edges of the work, most apparent at but not limited to, the upper and centre right vertical edge, and the left upper edge. There is some light scratching and very small flecks of loss scattered across the work, primarily apparent to the head and between the legs of the figure on the right, to the red-brown pigment in the upper left corner, and to the brown-green pigment in the bottom left corner. There are also two light purple scuffs to the back of the figure on the right. There are some light traces of surface dirt and studio detritus across the work, primarily to the light blue pigment to the right of the central figure. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching. The work is float-mounted and housed in an ornate painted wooden frame, held under glass. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
