Condition

The box appears to be stable. The front left corner joint of the boxes has disconnected and no longer lies flush with the lid. The back left panel of the box has split. There is evidence of old wood worm scattered across the piece. Knocks, scuffs, light scratches and small areas of associated paint loss are visible particularly around the extreme edges of the work. There is some craquelure in the black pigment at the top of the box and in the red pigment at the reverse of the lid. Surface dirt and staining is visible throughout the piece, particularly in the light pigment at in the body of the box. Ultraviolet light reveals no evidence of retouching or florescence.
