Description

  • Agostino Bonalumi
  • Untitled
  • signed, dated 60 and inscribed on the reverse
  • mixed media on canvas
  • 100 by 80cm.; 39½ by 31½in.

Condition

Original canvas. The canvas appears to be slightly loose on its stretcher, but otherwise appears sound. There are two small pressure marks towards the centre of the upper right horizontal edge. There is some rubbing to the edges of the canvas, most apparent at the corners of the work, with some associated paint loss. There is some craquelure to the black pigment, which is cupping in places, and has resulted in losses. There are some fine lines of craquelure in one or two places towards the lower horizontal edge, which has resulted in some very minor losses. There is an area of loss to the central right area of the work, and some further small scattered losses. There are one or two light scuffs to the work, the most apparent being to the central right of the composition, measuring approximately 5.5cm, and a further scuff towards the centre of the left vertical edge, measuring approximately 4.5cm, with some smaller further scuffs visible upon closer inspection. There is some surface dirt and studio detritus. There are some scattered spots of mould, most apparent to the left and right vertical edges. The work is presented in a simple wooden batten frame. Ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
