Description

  • Frank Avray Wilson
  • Untitled
  • oil on canvas
  • 152 by 60cm.; 59¾ by 23½in.

Provenance

Redfern Gallery, London, where acquired by the father of the present owner in 1961

Condition

Original canvas. There is evidence of frame abrasion with some small associated paint losses, particularly along the upper horizontal edge and at the centre of the right vertical edge. There is another small fleck of paint loss at the upper left vertical edge, with further losses in the upper right corner of the composition. There is a small area of craquelure in the dark blue pigment at the upper centre of the composition and reticulation in the more impasto paintwork. There is some surface dirt and matter across the piece. With the exception of the above the work appears to be in good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of florescence or retouching. The painting is presented in a small square profile gilt frame.
