Condition

Original canvas. The canvas undulates slightly on its stretcher. There are horizontal and vertical lines of paint cracking, particularly noticeable in the upper turquoise area of the composition, with a further area in the lower right quadrant. On close examination there are areas of reticulation across the composition in the dark blue pigments. There is a small horizontal scratch measuring approximately 1cm at the upper centre of the composition, and some surface dirt across the work. Subject to the above, the painting appears to be in good and stable condition. Ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching. The work is presented behind glass, in a wooden and gilt frame with a linen covered slip. Please contact the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
