Condition
Oil on board. There are minor areas of surface dirt and studio detritus across the work, including several areas of discoloured varnish, most visible at the upper right corner, and above and below the lowest of the three sea breakers towards the left hand vertical edge. There a few minor flecks of paint loss, including the extreme edges, and the lower centre and the upper and lower left of the composition. There are several minor surface scratches, most visible at the bottom right-hand edge of the work, which could be in keeping with the artist's working method. The oil paint is stable and, subject to the above, the work appears in good condition.
Ultraviolet light reveals that there is an uneven and discoloured varnish layer which makes the surface difficult to read, although there appears to be some fluorescence in the lower left corner above the signature.
