Rare première édition complète de ce charmant manuel de dessin d'après nature. "The following drawings are submitted to young ladies with the view of promoting the taste for drawing Birds...." (Avertissement de l'album des Oiseaux). "Exceedingly rare" (cf. Oak Spring, II, Pomona 41).
6 gravures par volume, chacune en double état, en couleurs et en noir en vis-à-vis prête à être coloriée.
Exceptionnelle reliure à l'éventail, rappelant les grands décors espagnols du XVIIe siècle. Il semblerait que les éditeurs aient confié leurs exemplaires de luxe à relier au même relieur. Un exemplaire vendu en Ecosse en 2012 présente un décor du même atelier.
