Catalogue Note
A FINE FAMILY PRESENTATION COPY. George Arthur Lawrence (1876 - 1967), who seems to have had a troubled early life, was the eldest of the three Lawrence brothers (David Herbert was the youngest). The brothers were not close and George particularly disapproved of Lawrence's wife. As noted by Brenda Maddox he later "felt that Frieda had turned his brother into a pornographer".
This copy corresponds to the description of the first variant in Roberts' bibliography in that the top edge is trimmed but the others are untrimmed.
