Catalogue Note
The illustrator Jessie M. King (1875-1949) was also one of the most commercially successful fabric designers to emerge from Scotland in the early 20th century. Having learnt the technique of batik printing in Paris, she returned to live permanently in Scotland in 1915 where she ran arts courses from her home and designed fabrics, some of which were bought by Liberty.
Despite this, her career as an illustrator continued, Over the sixty years of her working life she undertook close to 300 design projects.
