Catalogue Note

The fourth and final book in Greene and Dorothy Glover's series for children.

Despite the demise of their relationship, Greene remained fiercely loyal to his professional collaboration with Dorothy Glover. When approached by Max Reinhardt in 1959 with the proposition of reissuing the books with new illustrations, he responded, "Sorry it would be quite impossible...that would be an insult to an old friend who collaborated in the whole affair".

It was not until after Dorothy's death in 1971 that Greene finally allowed the books to be reissued with new illustrations by Edward Ardizzone.
