Catalogue Note

Lady Dorothy Nevill was a friend and patron of Greenaway, and the artist often added additional illustrations to the books and almanacks she presented to her.

In a letter dated 1900, Greenaway writes to Lady Dorothy "It is so nice of you to think of buying one of my drawings... I like to GIVE YOU anything you like...drawings are the only things I have to give to my friends, and I feel it too much you should buy them" (The Life and Letters on Dorothy Nevill, Ralph Nevill, 1919).
