Catalogue Note

RARE UNILLUSTRATED EDITION. The death of Pierre-Jules Hetzel, Verne's guide and editor, in March 1886 came just weeks after Verne was shot in the leg by his nephew and was followed closely by the death of his mother. The publication of Nord contre Sud by Hetzel's son, Louis Jules, marked a renewal of vigour on Verne's part after this "black period".
