BLYTON'S VERY SCARCE FIRST BOOK. The cover features an illustration by Phyllis Chase, a school friend of Blyton's. The pair had been reunited at a garden party in the late summer of 1920, and by the end of that meeting had agreed on working together. The book is dedicated to the "four little brothers, David, Brian, Peter, and John" for whom Blyton was nursery mistress at the time.
