Condition
This painting is on its original stretcher and has not been lined. The painting is unvarnished as it should be. It probably has never been cleaned but neither is it dirty. The only area which is slightly distorted and may show some losses is the blue color which surrounds the large central sphere. This color can also be found in the upper center of the picture, surrounding the other orange sphere. Slight waves to the canvas have developed because this color is so heavily applied. Thereare small areas within this blue color where the purple undercolor is still visible. While a couple of these small patches of visible undercolor may correspond to real losses in the upper center of the blue section, it seems that the bulk of these unpainted areas are original. The paint layer seems to be stable, and it is recommended that the work be hung in its current state. (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.)
