Condition

This work has been recently restored. Under ultraviolet light, one can see that there are two significant restorations. There is one in the white post in the upper right corner, where a fairly large section of restoration has been applied to correct discoloration and old paint loss. The other is to a horizontal damage running through the mouth of the figure on the left into the blue sky to his immediate right. There are isolated restorations within the remainder of the picture, many of which are across the top in the sky and running down the right edge. The figures in general are very well preserved, aside from the aforementioned restoration in the figure on the left. The canvas has an old lining that is certainly sufficient and will continue to support this large canvas. It is recommended that the work be hung in its current state.
