Catalogue Note

Executed in the early 1980s, the present drawings embody Mira Schendel's mastery of monochromatic formalism. While undeniably fragile in their delicate transparency, both works convey a decidedly elegant treatment of absolute color. Here, at its most essential, formalism gives way to the spiritual through the subtle interplay of minimal golden details; medieval notions of the divine that overcome the clamor of much contemporary painting.
