Catalogue Note

"Gego's invention could hardly have been more artisanal. But while seeming at first glance to have removed only paper from the process of drawing, she also removed what in the context of gesturalism has been called the mind in the hand, thereby eliminating gestural drawing's implicit author and subject. Gego could hardly have made drawings that were less anthropomorphic, yet less a record of the artist's presence. By this means her Drawings without Paper are simultaneously drawings without a body."
