Enrico Colle, Il Mobile Rococò in Italia, Arredi e decorazioni d’interni dal 1738 al 1775, Milan, 2003, pp. 338-339.
This exquisitely decorated console table with hand coloured prints, probably by Remondini, with a central cartouche flanked by floral sprays is very much in the style of the workshop of Giacomo Locatelli.
Colle, op. cit. pp. 338-339, illustrates no. 79, a Venetian red lacquer and arte povera bureau by Giacomo Locatelli (one of a pair sold in these Rooms, 10th March 1999, from the Estate of the late Giuseppe Rossi, Vol. I, lot 126, now in a private collection), with reserves of arte povera on a red ground flanked by very similar floral decoration as on the offered console table. It is also worthwhile noting a bureau recorded by Alberici, p. 204 (cat. 271), with similar decoration which has a very rare label which reads `Lavori Di Giacomo Locattelli all'Insegna del Redentore in Merceria Venezia' (sold Christie's, London, 13th December 1973, lot 100). A bureau cabinet with similar decoration is in the Civiche Raccolte d'Arte Applicata of Castello Sforzesco in Milan.
Furthermore, a suite of Venetian lacquered and arte povera furniture, more than likely produced in the same workshop was sold in these Rooms, 10th March 1999, from the Estate of the late Giuseppe Rossi, Vol. I, including the aforementioned pair of bureaux -lot 126, and also see lot 124, a centre table decorated in a similar palette and with similar arte povera reserves and floral decoration to that on the offered piece.
