Catalogue Note

A red-skinned lord seated in an orange howdah on an elephant accompanied by a retinue of female attendants, preceded by musicians and a dancer. Against a flat green hillside rising to a line of small trees with palaces and blue sky beyond.

In the Amber tradition the iconography of Dipak is associated with the autumn festival of Diwali - the festival of lights.  A very similar composition from Amber, the old capital of Jaipur, is in the Kankroli Collection.
