Catalogue Note

The current painting depicting Khedrub Geleg Pal Zangpo (1385-1438), a close disciple of Tsong Khapa, is from a larger set of twelve known Lamrim Lineage paintings in the Geluk tradition, likely commissioned in the last half of the 18th Century or the first half of the 19th Century.

For four examples from this Lamrim series, see Melissa R. Kerin, Artful Beneficence: Selections from the David Nalin Himalayan Art Collection, New York, 2009; for two further paintings in the Rubin Museum of Art collection, see Himalayan Art Resources, item nos. 65798 and 68890.
