Catalogue Note

Created in the style of Sajnu. The Goddess Durga depicted in her manifestation as Kali standing triumphantly nimbate within a magnificent bejeweled golden canopy trampling Shiva, her four arms holding attributes and weapons, being celebrated by Gods, kings sadhus and kinnara musicians after her great victory over the asuras. The Himalayas rise sharply upward in nine stylized peaks before a blood-red and blue sky.

“If Shiva is united with Shakti (The Goddess) he is able to exert his powers as lord if not the god is unable to stir.”
