Catalogue Note

A couple passionately embrace within a domed pavilion. A handmaiden with a monkey and peacock wait outside. Other folios from this dispersed illustrated manuscript have emerged in the marketplace over the years but thus far the series has not been further specifically identified. However, the painting is clearly from latter 17th Century Sirohi with its color palette of browns, burnt oranges and white with outlines in black ink. The distinctive Sirohi facial types and well-composed pothi-style format with strong architectural elements is executed in a confident hand.
