Description
- Copper alloy
the devi standing in tribhanga with tall conical headdress, the loose hair cascading down the bare shoulders, adorned with earrings, necklaces, armlets and bracelets, the diaphanous dhoti secured with a girdle and sash, standing atop a plinth with double lotus throne
Provenance
Acquired in Bombay circa 1960s by Mrs. Priti Currimbhoy (nee Misra), founder of the Taj Art Gallery and Dr. Angelo Tealdo, Managing Director of Ceat Tyres; thence by descent.
The current owner is descended from Sir Ebrahim Currimbhoy (1839-1924) and Allen Currimbhoy (1924-1960) whose family was very prominent in Mumbai circles notably through the Currimbhoy Trust.
Condition
Wear, accretion and heavy patination throughout. Loss to attribute and oxidation in raised right hand. Losses to earlobe and earrings, as viewed. Loss to chakra at back of head.
