Catalogue Note

The present lot is a version of plate 17 illustrated in Ambroise Vollard's Réincarnations du Père Ubu. Rouault made 104 drawings in total (which were engraved on wood by Georges Aubert) to illustrate Vollard's text, which was published in Paris in 1932. Rouault began the series in 1913 and completed the illustrations in 1929.
