Condition

THE FIRST: Gouache on paper. Sheet is hinged to mat by tape at top, verso is visible. Recto: Surface in generally good condition, colors are vibrant and fresh. Three uncut edges. One minor loss of pigment visible in extreme upper right edge. There is one minor area of pencil evident in lower right quadrant. Recto: Remnants of adhesive from previous matting evident around extreme edges. Some scattered pencil markings. Surface dirt. Some mat stain and surface dirt. THE SECOND: Gouache on watermarked "Arches" paper. Sheet is hinged to mat by tape at top, verso is visible. Recto: Surface in generally good condition, colors are vibrant and fresh. Some mat and light stain visible. Pencil markings visible around extreme edges, not visible in frame. Artist's pinholes visible at all four corners. Surface dirt. One 1 inch repaired area visible in lower left quadrant in the seated figure's shadow. Possibile faint diagonal water stain, approximately three inches in length, visible in lower right quadrant. Recto: Mat stain visible. Some surface dirt. Scattered fox marks and pencil markings visible.
