Catalogue Note

In this work Grosz depicts a busy street scene in downtown Manhattan with typical brownstone houses and some high rise buildings in the background. Grosz first travelled to New York in 1932 to teach summer courses at the Art Students League. He moved to the city in 1933 and lived briefly in Manhattan before eventually settling in Bayside, Long Island.
