Condition

Executed on blue wove paper, laid down onto the artist's mount. The sheet is very slightly time-stained, but the colours remain bright. There is an extremely fine, barely visible, scratch to the upper right quadrant which is away from the composition itself. Overall this work is in very good condition.

Catalogue Note

Rossana Podestà, the first known owner of this work, was one of the famed and beautiful 'Pink Neorealist' Italian actresses of the 1950s and 1960s. The glamorous Rossana is perhaps most famous for having acted as Nausicaa in the 1954 film Ulysses alongside Kirk Douglas, having been chosen over both Liz Taylor and Ava Gardner for the role. The work has remained in the family's collection for over forty years.
