in overall excellent condition. Please note that the knives are by Gavet, same pattern, same period and engraved with same coat-of-arms.

Catalogue Note
Les armoiries sont celles de Louis-Octave Fontaine (1762-1812), créé baron de l'Empire en 1810, qui participa à la guerre d'indépendance des Etats-Unis de 1779 à 1782 sous les ordres de Rochambeau. Il se distingua au siège de Pensacola en 1781. Il fut nommé général de brigade en 1799 et ses prouesses à Austerlitz lui obtinrent d'être nommé officier de la Légion d'honneur.
