Catalogue Note

With a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives and presentation box.

Patek Philippe introduced ref. 5075 in 2000 as a limited edition featuring different set patterns. Each enamel dial created for the ref. 5075 limited series was done so by hand using the ancient art of cloisonné. Cloisonné is a process where a design is created on a blank canvas (the dial) using thin strips of gold joined to the base that create a border between colours. Considered a 'lost art', each enameller will usually has a creation of their-own specially formulated colours to work with including a colour chart to use as a guide since the material changes in appearance when heated. The process can be extremely lengthy as each colour has to be fired separately at a different temperature, this also increases the chances of failure as the firing process is extremely delicate and even the most experienced can lose months of work due to unforeseeable cracking during the process. Due to the process in which the dials are made each watch in the series can be considered unique. The present example is part of a limited "flower"series, with a cloisonné enamel dial portraying a delicate and graceful red orchid flower.
