- en bronze patiné, marqué du C couronné
- Haut. 42 cm, height 16 1/2 in.
l'Allégorie féminine vêtue à l'antique, les drapés lourds, la tête coiffée d'un voile et d'une couronne aux fleurs, le manche d'un sceptre à la main, un collier avec la colombe du Saint-Esprit autour du cou, s'appuie sur un livre ouvert soutenu par un ange debout à ses côtés et maintenant à terre l'Hérésie sous la forme d'un homme au corps de chimère

Condition
Very good condition overall with some vert-de-gris and minor oxidation in the crevices at several places. Two fixing holes in the base. The attribute in her proper hand partly missing.

Catalogue Note
Pierre Legros II (1666-1719) réalisa vers 1695-99 un marbre du même sujet pour l’église Il Gesú, à Rome. La complexité iconographique du sujet rappelle un autre bronze, Le Temps témoin du triomphe de l'Honneur par un artiste parisien, vers 1700-1725 (op.cit.,n°100). Le thème des Vertus dominant le Mal fut amplement traité sous Louis XIV, symbolisant les bienfaits d'un bon gouvernement, en la personne du Roi, protecteur de ses sujets. Notre bronze se rapproche aussi d’un Enlèvement d’Hélène, par Philippe Bertrand vers 1701 (château de Fontainebleau, inv.n° 1010 C).
