Condition

Very good condition overall with some minor stains of oxidation at several places. A few fine hairline fissures to the tortoise shell frame with a few minor lacks to the edges. A few minor repairs of lacks to the giltcopper mounts. Nice chiseling and finishing of the gilt-bronze.

Catalogue Note

Stylistiquement, cette statuette en ivoire peut être rapprochée d'une figure de Vénus et Cupidon, signée A.CAPUZ au V&A museum à Londres (cf. M. Trusted, op.cit.). On connaît une famille de sculpteurs originaires de Gênes et ayant travaillé en Espagne, à Valence, à la fin du XVIIe et au début du XVIIIe siècle.
