Condition

The illustration is accurate. Good overall condition despite the inevitable scratches and marks throughout due to age and use. As visible on the illustration, an ormolu decorative element is missing on the base, on each lateral panel flanking the relief. Otherwise the gilding is nice despite slightly tarnished. A few minor chips on the dial. Please note that we do not guarranty the working of the mechanism although it looks complete. The rewing key is missing but it can be replaced easily.

Catalogue Note

Sous l'impulsion du marchand-mercier Daguerre, ce modèle de pendule fut créé en 1784 à partir des figures dites "l'Etude" et "la Philosophie" modelées par Boizot en 1780 pour la manufacture de Sèvres. Daguerre confia à Rémond la réalisation des exemplaires, réalisés avec de nombreuses variantes et dotés de mouvements par Lépine, Robin, Sotiau ou Manière. Ce modèle à succès supplanta à la fin du XVIIIe siècle la pendule dite "à la Geoffrin" (cf. C. Baulez, "La Pendule à la Geoffrin", in L'Estampille/L'Objet d'art n°224, avril 1989, p. 41 et "Essai sur l'oeuvre décoratif de Louis-Simon Boizot : les bronziers Gouthière, Thomire et Rémond" in Louis-Simon Boizot, cat. expo., Paris, 2001, p. 286).
