Catalogue Note

Philipp Stenglin specialized in making beakers and cups. A covered beaker by him 1711-15, engraved with Hebrew inscription for the Chevra Kaddisha in 1776, is in the Jewish Museum in Prague.

This double cup is of similar type to two other Augsburg examples: one by Marx II Schaller, circa 1670-74, sold Sotheby’s, Paris, April 15, 2010, lot 217 and one by Tobias Hallicher, 1689, sold Christie's, London, June 10, 2008, lot 97.
