Description

  • marked on staves and with later Dutch control mark
  • silver
  • height 10 5/8 in.

each formed as a baluster shaft applied with scroll brackets suspending gilt bells, gilt crown finials, the staves engraved with Hebrew inscription, crowns possibly restored

Condition

as noted re. crowns, minor repairs to brackets, one stave with dent to base rim, crowns now secured by machine-threaded bolts and possibly remounted, otherwise good condition

Catalogue Note

The inscription on the first translates to "These are the Rimmonim of Emanuel and Hannah di Crasto, may their rock and redeemer protect them." The second reads "By the almighty who shall bless you with blessings of heaven above" (Genesis 49:25) and which also serves as a chronogram for 1744.
