Description

  • platinum, gold, sapphire, diamond, pearl
Centering an oval-shaped sapphire weighing 22.24 carats, framed by scrollwork flourishes set with old mine and old European-cut diamonds weighing approximately 1.45 carats, accented by four variously-shaped pearls measuring approximately 12.4 by 7.6 mm to 9.6 by 6.9 mm; circa 1900.

Condition

In good condition. The metal displays minor scratching commensurate with wear and some patina to the reverse. The sapphire is backed, making depth unmeasurable, and is a medium to medium-light, slightly violetish blue; slightly to moderately included with a fingerprint visible under magnification and numerous nicks and abrasions to the facet junctions. The interior of the backing appears to have lost some of its finish, giving the stone a somewhat "patchy" appearance on closer inspection. The diamonds are approximately G-J color, predominantly SI clarity. The pearls are baroque with fair luster and soft to moderate pink and green overtones, with uneven skins, pitting and some small cracking. Length approximately 2 3/4 inches. Accompanied by AGL report no. CS 1074156 stating that the sapphire is of Ceylon origin, with no indications of heating. Please note the pearls have not been tested for natural origin.
