Designed as a snake set with one old mine-cut diamond, accented by two cabochon ruby eyes, further set with round demantoid garnets, internal circumference 6½ inches; circa 1880.

Condition

In good condition. The metal displays slight scratching and pitting as well as some tarnishing to the silver. There are remnants of a safety that has been removed. There is a scratch number on the tongue of the clasp and the piece is numbered "256" near the hinge. The garnets range from a medium to medium-deep, slightly yellowish green and are moderately to heavily included with conchoidal chips and abraded facet junctions in addition to internal inclusions. The diamond is approximately G-H color, VS-SI clarity. The ruby cabochons are a medium-deep, slightly purplish red and are slightly included. With a leather case.
