Of openwork design, decorated with scrollwork and floral flourishes, centering an oval-shaped sapphire measuring approximately 8.8 by 6.6 by 7.4 mm, accented by smaller round and oval-shaped sapphires, supporting a natural pearl drop measuring approximately 7.7 mm, further set with old European and single-cut diamonds measuring approximately 1.70 carats, highlighted with green, red and black enamel, chain length 15½ inches; circa 1870. With fitted box and brooch attachment.

Condition

In good condition with some evidence of tarnish to the mounting and solder repair in a few areas, not apparent when worn. The enamelwork is in very good condition with only very minor enamel damage at two edges. The oval-shaped sapphires are a richly saturated medium-deep slightly violetish blue and eye-clean to slightly included. The round sapphires are a medium to medium-light violet-blue and slightly included. The natural pearl drop displays a creamy white color with moderate rose and green overtones, fair to good luster and moderate blemishing, mainly in the form of pitting and ringing. The diamonds are approximately H-J color, VS-SI clarity. Gross weight approximately 15 dwts, dimensions approximately 2 3/4 by 1 1/2 inches. Brooch exhibits nice detailing and craftsmanship. Accompanied by GIA report no. 2175217338 stating that the pearl is natural, saltwater.
