Description

  • gold, yellow beryl, enamel, diamond
Designed as an owl centered by a mixed-cut golden beryl measuring approximately 14.0 by 13.0 by 9.3 mm, accented by old mine and kite-shaped diamonds weighing approximately .65 carat and numerous rose-cut diamonds, gross weight approximately 15 dwts, signed L. Gautrait, numbered 30154, with French assay and maker's mark, 8 diamonds missing.

Condition

In very good condition. The yellow beryl is medium light very slightly greenish yellow (slightly more golden than pictured in the enhanced photo of the printed catalogue) and eye-clean. The diamonds are approximately G-H color, VS-SI clarity. The enamel is in good condition with some very minor losses to the left side of the brooch. The beryl's setting shows some evidence of solder to the reverse, but this is not evident when the brooch is worn. Circa 1900. For a similar brooch, see "The Belle Epoque of French Jewellery 1950 - 1910", page 286. Please note this brooch is signed L Gautrait, not L. Gaillard as stated in the printed catalogue.

Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
