Description
- Van Cleef & Arpels
- sapphire, gold
The polished gold ring set at the front with calibré-cut sapphires, size 4¾, signed Van Cleef & Arpels, numbered 43.531, with French assay and partial maker's marks.
Condition
In good condition. Gentle surface wear to the mounting with the shank having recently received a light polish to remove nicking. Evidence of sizing which may account for the 585 stamp on the shank, but well executed and seen only on close inspection. The signature and numbering to the shank interior is clear, the assay and maker's mark to the exterior are significantly rubbed. The sapphires are a well-matched, medium-deep blue and predominantly eye-clean with several stones bearing minor chipping and abrading to the facet junctions; the 2 outer rows of sapphires bear light scratching to the table facets, possibly from being stacked next to other rings. These abrasions and scratches are seen only upon close inspection. One sapphire is a later-replacement, but well-matched.
