Condition

Overall in very good condition with the horn retaining a nice polish. When viewed in person, the piece presents with a slightly blonder color than seen in the printed catalogue illustration. The surfaces with some minute shallow scratches, minor edge abrasions and light surface dirt to the recessed areas, consistent with age and gentle use. Areas of internal fracturing and splintering along with two darker points visible in the catalogue illustration which are inherent in the horn material. The upper proper right carved edge with a minute pin-head chip, only visible upon close inspection. The translucent hardstone, possibly a type of chalcedony or non-phenomenal opal, is a medium-light greenish blue with color mottling and minor cavities concentrated on to one side. As seen in the catalogue illustration, surface dirt is trapped in the cavities, but this does not detract and lends an interesting texture to the stone. An extraordinary and delicate design by Rene Lalique in beautiful condition. -----
